Peace·Love·Serendipity
In the Sint-Hubertusstraat, in the heart of Ghent, at the foot of the Book Tower (Architect Henri Van de Velde), RED2 is building three funky homes.
Our Funkey Townhouses are designed to be used by families and composed households alike. In this well thought of combination of communal spaces and private rooms, our Funkey crowd finds peace, love and serendipity.
What makes these houses different? Pretty much everything. Our Funkey Townhouses differ in both style and substance.
In terms of substance, we go 'all the way' when it comes to sustainability: heated and cooled with heat pumps combined with solar panels — and the façades are built in hempcrete instead of energy-guzzling brick.
In terms of style, the differences may be even more striking. A Funkey Townhouse is not contemporary, nor rural, nor classic, and certainly not clinical. It is eclectic: through a balanced combination of styles, it creates both calm and dynamism. It is not trendy, yet remains eternally hip.

"You can buy or rent a townhouse anywhere.
But nothing compares to a Funkey Townhouse."
— RED2
"Hemp can sequester twice as much CO₂ from the atmosphere as forests, grows much faster than trees, and requires less space."
"Hemp provides so many solutions to the crises that currently face humanity."
"Hempcrete is versatile, beautiful, and breathes moisture. It speaks to a future where we could grow all the materials we build with."
Stores carbon during growth
Less heating in winter, less cooling in summer
No condensation or mould
Non-combustible, insect-proof
Stronger over time
